Michael’s bedding piece is an immersive and encompassing, intimate work of art. In Michael’s idiosyncratic artistic style and attention to detail, a quality fabric is covered by a thousand plateaux (at least) of letters used in the name of Robert Johnson, yet leaving out the redundant ones. The transitory state of bedtime has never been more a matter of style.
As a conceptual artist, Michael Riedel has literally turned Robert Johnson upside down. His installation Johnson-Robert (2004) replicated the interior of the club in a gallery, flipping it over while the music played backwards—a manifestation of one of his concepts, to switch sides and positions, to copy and polarize by means of appropriation and artistic reinterpretation. Michael Riedel is a founding member to the Freitagsküche, an artistic concept embracing social sculpture, food and music in an artist run space. He is a professor of Painting in the context of Fine Arts class of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig.
